Bordering the North Sea and Wadden Sea, Holland has 300 km/180 mi of beautiful coastline, which stretches from the Wadden Islands in the north, and all the way south to the Belgian border. The Dutch coastline is unique with its wild, natural beauty and its almost unbroken line of sandy beaches, and dotted with fishing villages, lighthouses, and pretty seaside resorts. The immediate hinterland of the coastline includes the historical centers of Alkmaar, Haarlem, Leiden, The Hague and Delft. There are many bicycle paths crisscrossing the wind-blown dunes, and there is also a virtually uninterrupted bicycle path from the northern town of Den Helder, right down to Rotterdam, offering tranquility even when the beaches are at their busiest in high season.
