Public Holidays and Opening times in the Netherlands

Public Holidays

Banks, Post offices, libraries and all government offices are closed on public holidays. Shops are also closed. Restaurants, bars and hotels remain open, although sometimes with limited opening times.
•     January 1 - New Year’s Day (Nieuwjaar)
•     Good Friday (Goede vrijdag) - some shops are open
•     Easter Sunday (Eerste Paasdag) and Easter Monday (Tweede Paasdag)
•     April 27th, King’s day (Koningsdag)
•     May 5th, WW II Liberation Day (Nationale Bevrijdingsdag)
•     Ascension Day (Hemelvaartsdag) - the 40th day of Easter, always on a Thursday
•     Pentecost also known as Whit Sunday (Pinksterdag) – seven weeks after Easter Sunday
•     Whit Monday (Tweede Pinksterdag) - the second day of Pentecost
•     December 25th - Christmas Day (Eerste Kerstdag)
•     December 26th - 2nd Christmas Day (Tweede Kerstdag)

Opening times

•     Banks: Monday-Friday 9.00-16.00 hrs
•     Post offices: Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00 hrs, Saturday 10.00-13.00 hrs
•     Shops: Monday 13.00-18.00 hrs, Tuesday-Friday 9.00-18.00 hrs, Saturday 10.00-17.00 hrs, and either Thursday or Friday 19.00-21.00 hrs
•     Supermarkets: Monday-Saturday 9.00-20.00 hrs
•     Pharmacies are open during regular business hours Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00 hrs. Nights and weekends the pharmacies have a limited service, but some cities may have pharmacies which are open 24 hrs / 7 days a week.
